This year we have not one but several reasons to celebrate: The anniversary of the Messe München exhibition center in Riem, of the ICM - Internationales Congress Center München and of the MOC Veranstaltungs- und Ordercenter in Freimann. Also the opening of our new exhibition halls—C5 and C6—and the completion and opening of the Conference Center Nord in December.
So far, so good. What does all that have to do with our #Passiontoconnect? What does the events program of Messe München Locations look like in the next half-year, and what’s the news on our Conference Center Nord?
In this issue of our newsletter, you can read...
Before you start reading, I would just like to pass on a personal recommendation for when you are next surfing the internet: The new website of the tourist office of the City of Munich: www.simply-munich.com. It’s packed with valuable tips, useful facts and quirky stories about our fantastic city, including for example the answer to why the grass in the English Garden is always so green, and what it feels like to go shopping in your swimming trunks.
I hope you enjoy the read!
Deputy Managing Director, Messe München
More than 150 guest events in one year. That’s an impressive number and one that underlines the fact that in 2018 the Messe München Locations—the Messe München exhibition center, the ICM – Internationales Congress Center München and the MOC Veranstaltungscenter München—are once again among the top locations for organizers from all over the world. However, that’s not the only reason why this year is a special and eventful one for Messe München.
In 2018 the company has several reasons to celebrate. Exactly 20 years ago the company moved from the old location at Theresienhöhe in Munich city center to a brand new exhibition center on the site of the city’s former airport in Munich-Riem. With the opening of this new center and the completion of the ICM in the same year, the city had risen up “into the Mount Olympus of trade fair cities”—in the words of the German Federal President at the time, Roman Herzog. And indeed, the way Messe München has been developing ever since is remarkable. The new site ushered in a period of exceptionally strong growth—both nationally and internationally.
But it’s not only at the Messe München exhibition center in Riem that the champagne corks will be popping—the MOC Veranstaltungs- und Ordercenter in München-Freimann is also celebrating a birthday. This center, the birthplace of some major events such as EXPO REAL and opti will be 25 years old this year. Designed and built by star architect Helmut Jahn, the building has been run by Messe München since it opened, and it has been setting standards ever since, as an event center and as an order center for sports and shoe fashion.
Not forgetting the completion and opening of the new Conference Center Nord, which has been built in the northeast corner of the Messe München exhibition center and which goes into service in December. Together with the two new halls C5 and C6 this conference center offers excellent facilities for a wide range of trade fairs, congresses and other events.
As a way of celebrating these anniversaries and successes of recent years with you, Messe München Locations have launched their #Passiontoconnect campaign. It’s easy to take part: At www.passiontoconnect.com there are four different motifs, standing for the experience, success, ideas, innovations and the inspiration of Messe München Locations, these qualities playing a special role in this campaign. You can download the motifs, print them out, take a photo of yourself with them (or have one taken), upload it under #Passiontoconnect to Facebook or Instagram and take part in the photographic competition of Messe München Locations. The creators of the 20 best photos will receive a birthday cake for themselves and their team. Celebrate with the team of Messe München Locations and tell us what your #Passiontoconnect is.
Trade fairs, public shows, AGMs, conferences and other events of all kinds: Again in 2018, a large number of guest events, with wide-ranging formats, is making for a packed trade-fair and congress calendar at Messe München Locations.finden.
One highlight taking place in the halls of Messe München is the former Intersolar Europe, which is now taking place under the new umbrella brand strategy “The smarter E Europe” from June 20 to 22. It will be taking up eight halls in the ICM. As part of this new concept, the events Intersolar Europe, ees Europe, EM-Power and Smart2Drive Europe will all be taking place together for the first time.
In the coming months the ICM will be hosting a range of medical congresses. The program starts with the Congress of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), which takes place from May 26 to 30, 2018, in the ICM and in Hall B1. A few days later, on June 8 and 9, the EAU Update on Bladder Cancer Meeting is being hosted in the northern section of the ICM. And from July 24 to 28, the ICM is the venue for the 26th “Fortbildungswoche für praktische Dermatologie und Venerologie”, a training week for practical dermatology and venerology.
The ICM has of course a very well established reputation as a location for holding annual general meetings. BayWa AG, for example, a long-standing customer, will be taking up the entire ICM on June 5 for its AGM, with an expected 1,400 participants. It’s not only guest organizers that value the ICM and make good use of it—Messe München, too, is well aware of its benefits. The premiere of a new event organized by Messe München, called Command Control, the Leading Summit for Cyber Security, is taking place in the ICM from September 20 to 22.
In the MOC Veranstaltungscenter it’s all go in June and July. On June 6 and 7, the event CosmeticBusiness will be taking up all the exhibition halls and the atrium space in the MOC. More than 400 exhibitors and over 3,000 visitors are expected to attend this international trade fair for cosmetics suppliers. Two further high points are events focusing on local politics and business: the “Bayerische Wirtschaftsnacht” on June 18, and a meeting of the “Zukunftsrat der bayerischen Wirtschaft” on July 16. The MOC program in summer also features Aviation Electronics Europe 2018 on June 19 and 20, the TDWI Conference, from June 25 to 27, and SicherheitsExpo on June 27 and 28.
The Conference Center Nord, which building work also started parallel with the halls C6 and C5, will also soon go into service for events by Messe München and of course by guest organizers.
The outside and inside of the new conference center is now really taking shape—and building work is well advanced. Messe München is well within schedule with the work and all is on track for the official opening on December 13, 2018.
When exhibition halls C5 and C6 come into service in spring, and the Conference Center Nord at the end of 2018, the exhibition center in Munich-Riem will have reached its maximum expansion. For both Messe München’s own events and for guest events new capacities and possibilities will open up for holding trade fairs and events of many different formats and sizes.
In mid March the Team Sales Messe München Locations reached full strength: With Carolin Hochwind and Agnes Gerisch on board the company has gained two experienced sales professionals who not only have in-depth knowledge of trade fairs and the hospitality business, but also great charm. In future they will be advising corporate and association customers. “We are looking forward to being able to strengthen this highly motivated team. Messe München Locations offer a great deal for our customers. And so we are looking forward to the inquiries and until then wish all the customers and business partners a successful IMEX.” If you want to know more about the two new colleagues and Messe München Locations, take a look at the following video on LinkedIn.
The new Messe München website went live at the beginning of May, and on it is a separate section for Messe München Locations. All the information on the Messe München exhibition center, the ICM – Internationales Congress Center München, the MOC Veranstaltungscenter and the Conference Center Nord can now be found at www.messe-muenchen.de.The websites www.icm-muenchen.de and www.moc-muenchen.de will automatically redirect to the Messe München website.
“One of my highlights is Café Vorhoelzer, on the top floor of a building of the Technical University of Munich. This café, complete with rooftop terrace, has a fantastic view over Munich, in particular of the two Pinakothek museums. Here you can sit and enjoy the sun in one of their loungers, and if the wind is in the south, there’s a wonderful view of the Alps. What better day to wind down after the day, with a glass of cool beer, listening to music and watching the sun go down over the city?”
