Thinking Long-Term

We Assume Social Responsibility

Actively taking measures as a company to make a positive impact on society and strengthen Bavaria as a business location: that is one of the core ideas of Messe München. With a focused corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach, we take targeted action to protect the environment and the climate, to individually empower and support our employees, and to strengthen the community in the city and the region. We have set ourselves the long-term goal of further expanding our sustainable corporate governance, endeavoring to fulfill our social responsibility also in the future.

Messe München as a top employer

Our Corporate Social Responsibility

Since 2016, Messe München has been pooling its CSR activities to reinforce sustainable corporate governance in a dedicated corporate function, thus underscoring its high standards of social and corporate responsibility. The fact that the topic of CSR is anchored directly at the board level demonstrates how seriously we are taking this issue.

Voluntary Commitment under the "fairpflichtet" Sustainability Code

Messe München supports the fairpflichtet sustainability code. This means we assume corporate responsibility for sustainability in the organization and implementation of our events by following the ten sustainability guidelines set out in the sustainability codex for the events industry sector.

We would like to present you some examples of our environmental and social commitment.

  1. Messe München was the first exhibition center in the world to be awarded the “Energy-Efficient Company” certificate by TÜV SÜD.
  2. Messe München is a “Climate Partner Munich”, an initiative that develops products and services for climate protection.
  3. The GreenTec Awards are among the most prestigious environmental awards in the world. At our world-leading trade fair for environmental technologies IFAT, we give the awards an effective publicity platform.
  4. On International Tree Day 2016, we took a stand against the climate crisis with a major tree planting campaign on our exhibition grounds.
  5. Together with other initiators, we have founded the S-Bahn Alliance East. The goal: to sustainably promote and implement a four-track extension of the suburban railways between Munich East - Markt Schwaben and the construction of a dedicated suburban train station at Messe München. The expansion furthers the consistent and environmentally friendly shift of traffic from road to rail.

Green fairground in Munich

  1. With the Connect Women network, Messe München offers a platform for female executives from business, science, and politics. The objective is interdisciplinary networking and to strengthen each other.
  2. Based on contacts of the network "Connect Women", the initiative "Sport connects people" was launched: We bring socially disadvantaged people to the stadium for women's football of FC Bayern, where they can enjoy live matches and meet the players in person.
  3. Making Munich worth living in for all people who live here: that is the claim of the foundation “We help Munich”. For four years now, the foundation has been inviting homeless people of Munich to a pre-Christmas 3-course dinner. Many of our colleagues at Messe München have volunteered to help and contributed together with other supporters to a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
  4. Messe München is one of the founding members of the new, nationwide network “Companies integrate refugees” of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce. This endeavor further augments our previous commitment to refugees. Together with the Employment Agency and Refugee Integration Schools, we provide internships and apprenticeships for five young refugees. And we will continue to train refugees also in future.

We help Munich

  1. Since May 2017, our company has been a member of Fair Company, the largest and most popular employer initiative in Germany. We are committed to a fair workplace. For example, Messe München awards around 50 internships each year—fair salaries, clearly defined objectives and facilitating job entry opportunities are a matter of course.
  2. We support our employees in all situations and enable a healthy work-life balance: this includes reconciling work and family life, health promotion and flexible working hours.
  3. Promoting the careers of our staff is important to us: specialist training, internal and external education programs and an annual development day for our trainees are just some of our human resource development program measures.
  4. In a nationwide study by the business magazine Capital and the trainee portal, Messe München was awarded the best mark: our company is a top employer in the promotion of young talent. The rating was based, among others, on such criteria as the variety of challenges and tasks, individualized training courses and above-average remuneration for our trainees.
