European Championships Munich 2022: The Messe München trade fair center becomes the site for competitive sports

August 10, 2022

The European Championships Munich 2022 won’t be limited to just the Olympiapark this year. This is how Messe München will organize all track cycling events from August 11 to 16, 2022. Europe’s best track cyclists will do laps on a temporary track at the trade fair site and compete for 22 sets of medals. The European Championships Munich 2022 is the largest multi-sport event in Germany since the 1972 Olympic Games. The sporting event brings together nine European championships under one roof.

Europe’s fastest track cyclists will make fans go wild at Messe München from August 11 to 16. That’s because, in addition to the Olympiapark forming the heart of the European Championships 2022, this year’s event will be distributed across several locations.

A temporary cycling track has been erected in the C1 exhibition hall for the track cycling competition. The halls of Messe München offer the perfect infrastructure for the roughly 240 competing athletes. Thanks to its column-free design and height of between 11 and 16 meters, the available space is huge. As a practical side-effect, all halls on the exhibition grounds are fully navigable for vehicles and allow for simple, uncomplicated and flexible conversion during construction and dismantling.

“We are very much looking forward to hosting this sporting competition. It shows once again the variety of different events we at Messe München are able to accommodate and logistically master,” says Gerd Markwica, Director of Guest Events.

During the European Championships Munich 2022, which will be held from August 11 to 21, 2022, Europe’s best athletes in beach volleyball, canoe racing, climbing, track and field, cycling, rowing, table tennis, triathlon and gymnastics will give their all. In total, more than 4,700 athletes are in the running in the nine sports.

The Munich residents and guests alike are looking forward to an outstanding event. In addition to impressive sporting feats, every guest at the European Championships can enjoy a diverse supporting program with a mix of music, culture, art, food and much more at the “The Roofs” festival in the Olympiapark.

The festival and the European Championships Munich 2022 will open their doors as early as August 10. The official opening offers a taste of what’s to come on 11 stages brimming with international top-class sports and colorful festival vibes. The crowd will be hyped up with music from Marteria. The opening ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free for everyone to experience.
