Technical Exhibitor Service

The Technical Exhibitor Service comprises four teams (TAS 1–4), which provide support for all events on the exhibition ground in the areas of technical services and fire safety.

The TAS Venue Services (TAS VS) team is responsible for venue hire and related services (e.g. seating, multimedia).

For events at the ICM – International Congress Center Messe München and MOC – Event Center Messe München, the relevant departments will be happy to advise you.

Decorations (decorative materials)

General

Hall B1, empty, Messe München

Decorative materials must, as a general rule, be at least flame-retardant when installed. A certificate proving their fire behaviour must be provided. Please also refer to the section ‘Certificates’ in this regard.

Decorative materials must meet at least one of the following fire performance criteria:

DIN 4102-1: B1 with no burning droplets and limited smoke emission
EN 13501-1: C - s2, d0

Plants

Live plants are permitted provided they are placed in a moisture-retaining medium (e.g. soil, sphagnum moss) and kept moist throughout the entire duration of the event. No certificate is required.

Artificial plants / treated plants are only permitted if accompanied by a valid B1 certificate.

Moss

Untreated moss is permitted provided it is placed in a moisture-retaining medium (e.g. soil, moss blocks) and must be kept moist throughout the entire duration of the event. No certificate is required.

Treated moss is only permitted with a valid B1 certificate. The construction of the moss panel must comply with the description in the certificate.

Treated moss that has been tested without a backing board must be mounted on a non-combustible base.

Unfortunately, the logic ‘B1 moss + B1 backing board = B1 overall structure’ does not apply, as interactions between the materials may occur that negatively affect flammability.

Polystyrene (Styrofoam)

Polystyrene (Styrofoam) can be flame-retardant, but is nevertheless generally prohibited. Polystyrene produces a lot of soot, drips when burning, and the smoke is acidic.

Certificates

As explained in the previous section on ‘Decorations’, proof of fire behaviour must be provided for decorative materials.

Structure of the certificate

In principle, a certificate must contain the following points in order to be recognised:

Testing body
Notification by the EU (‘notified body no.’) and/or DIBt (PÜZ register)
Test standard (DIN 4102-1 or EN 13501-1)
Classification: At least B1 with limited smoke emission and no burning droplets, or C – s2, d0
Date of issue
Correct use of the product (e.g. distance from ignition sources)
Correct assembly/construction of the product
Language: German or English

Expiry date
‘Preliminary examinations’ will not be accepted.
Carpets must be used exclusively as carpets, not as decoration.

Notification / Recognition

The testing laboratory that issued the certificate must be listed in at least one of the following databases:

EN 13501-1
EN 13823
DIN 4102-1
- The relevant laboratories are listed in Part 1, Sections 23/1 and 23/3.
- The appendix contains an overview of the abbreviations and the corresponding institutes.

Inside an auto show, several sports cars are on display, including a white Porsche with sponsor decals. Visitors are strolling around and looking at the cars.

Vehicles (exhibits)

For vehicles with internal combustion engines or fuel cells that are brought in as exhibition items, the fuel level must be reduced to the non-critical level required for driving in and out. The reserve indicator on the fuel gauge must be lit.

Electric vehicles should have a charge level between 20% and 80%.
