Messe München and Munich have been chosen as the venue for the prestigious congress of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). This event will be held at Messe München from 17th to 21st April 2026 and is expected to attract approximately 18,000 international participants.
Clemens Baumgärtner, Labour and Economic Affairs Officer, expressed his enthusiasm: “Together with Messe München and our partners from the hotel and congress industry, we have convinced the organisers of Munich’s many advantages as a congress destination. Known as an excellent science metropolis with 17 universities, including two elite universities, and as an important healthcare hub with two university hospitals and a total of 60 clinics, Munich offers ideal conditions for this high-profile medical congress. In addition, the city offers an excellent infrastructure and, last but not least, a welcoming, lively atmosphere.”
“We are delighted that this important medical congress is also coming to Messe München,” says Reinhard Pfeiffer, CEO of Messe München. “The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear how essential new findings in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases are. With its expertise in events and its diverse spaces, Messe München offers the ideal setting for a congress of this magnitude.” Such events also strengthen the local economy, as they also generate considerable turnover for the catering, hotel, and retail sector, and for taxi companies.
ESCMID Global (formerly ECCMID) is an annual congress that brings together experts and specialists from the fields of clinical microbiology (CM) and infectious diseases (ID).
The European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) is the leading society for clinical microbiology and infectious diseases in Europe. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, ESCMID has become an increasingly important global player, shifting its focus to emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
