Messe München takes stake in Bits & Pretzels

September 30, 2018

Messe München is becoming a partner of the start-up conference Bits & Pretzels. In the future—subject to the approval of Munich City Council—it will take a ten percent stake in the event.

  • Messe München becomes a partner of the founders festival Bits & Pretzels and takes a ten percent stake
  • Munich and Bavaria lastingly strengthened as locations for start-ups
  • Messe München’s “Startup Boost” initiative shows start-ups ways to be successful at trade fairs

Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München, explains why Bits & Pretzels and his company are such a good fit. “Start-ups and trade fairs stand for innovation. Visitors can experience new products and technologies. That’s why we’ve always encouraged start-ups at our events by means of various concepts. Bits & Pretzels will bolster our commitment and enhance Munich as a hub in the international start-up scene.”

Bits & Pretzels has been held since 2015 at the International Congress Center on Messe München’s grounds. With its stake, Messe München is strengthening its ties with the organizers Andreas Bruckschlögl, Bernd Storm van’s Gravesande and Felix Haas, who launched Bits & Pretzels as an event staged by founders for founders in 2014. The three founders will benefit from the experience and professionalism of Messe München, and stress the value of this strategic partnership: “With Messe München we will be able to expand Bits & Pretzels into the most sought-after founders’ conference worldwide and develop new trade fair formats.”

Bavaria’s Minister of Economics Franz Josef Pschierer, who gave the opening speech at Bits & Pretzels, sees the partnership between Messe München and Bits & Pretzels as a sign of the strong network that exists in Bavaria, a state with a fine track record in the start-up arena: “Start-ups not only need financial support, but also a strong network. Bavaria boasts such a network. The right partners find each other in the Bavarian start-up scene – as you can see from Messe München and Bits & Pretzels. The partnership underscores the good cooperation within the scene in our state.”

Messe München is also showcasing its “Startup Boost” initiative at Bits & Pretzels. It bundles various offerings - some of which have been around for many years - that give company founders a stage to present their ideas to a wide audience.

About Bits & Pretzels
Bits & Pretzels is a three-day festival that brings together 5,000 founders, investors, start-up enthusiasts and decision-makers from the digital start-up ecosystem. The festival will be held at the International Congress Center in Munich on September 30 and October 1, 2018, and at the Oktoberfest on October 2. The festival has been able to attract famous names as speakers, such as Richard Branson, numerous CEOs of DAX-listed companies, the founders of Airbnb, Delivery Hero and Zendesk, and many successful other start-ups. Innovative formats such as the “Academy Stage” enable perfect knowledge sharing, while the “Table Captains” ensures ideal networking at Munich’s Oktoberfest. The following speakers have already confirmed they will be there this year: Tarana Burke (founder of the #MeToo movement), Nico Rosberg (Formula 1 world champion and investor), Hannes Ametsreiter (CEO of Vodafone Deutschland), Marc Samwer (Global Founders Capital) and many other internationally successful founders, investors and well-known personalities.
